Plans For A Tower In West Palm Beach

When one thinks of locations for the world's next megastructure West Palm Beach, Florida doesn't immediately spring to mind. The town however may end up as a the home to a Space-Needle-style structure that could head 1,550 feet in the sky and be home to a hotel, observatory, dance club and office space. The West Palm Beach Observatory is one of three proposals the city is looking at for a city-owned piece of land on Okeechobee Boulevard near the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The structure would dwarf all the structures in the area, in fact it would be the second highest tower in the world.

Other proposals include the Palm Beach Financial Center, a 27-level glass tower of curving glass with a hotel, offices and retail space and the Crocker project, a more traditional building with a hotel, office space, condos and a theater. It seems unlikely to me, at least, that the massive tower project is one that will suit the denizens of West Palm Beach but it is certainly an ambitious idea.
