Point Farm, Estate of the Day

Another huge estate has hit the market. Point Farm is located on a promontory on Virginia's Eastern Shore where two and a half miles of white-sand shoreline surround the estate's 130 acres with panoramic views across the Chesapeake Bay. The farm was purchased by Virginia Beach developer Dan Hoffler in 1989 for $2.5 million (hence the scrolled H on the home's gate). It includes a 16,000 square foot mansion and two parcels with several buildings. The large brick home, built in 2003, sits on a parcel that was assessed in 2004 at $5.4 million while the second parcel of 14.9 acres with a restored farmhouse, a boathouse, pool and pool house, tennis courts and a large garage with living quarters was assessed at $1.76 million. This means that the two parcels in 2004 amounted to $7.16 million which makes the home's price of $41.75 million quite staggering. According to this AP article, a new assessment is being undertaken.
The property includes a stable and indoor riding arena, a skeet-shooting range, three stocked saltwater ponds, a hunting lodge, a pier with a boathouse, a heated mineral-water swimming pool and a copper and slate-roofed poolhouse that has a kitchen and a terrace and a tiki bar. The estate also includes the original farmhouse which was built in 1730 and has been elarged and renovated. It has six waterview bedrooms, a kitchen and loggia, a waterside tennis court and brick terraces facing Remus Cove. The main house has a large office that opens to a media room and an exercise room with a full bath. The home includes many porches and balconies and there is a widow's walk on the roofline. The interior design style is cottage life on a grand scale with murals, chandeliers, marble and lots and lots of floral-printed furniture.

This is where NASCAR driver Kurt Busch, a friend of Hoffler's, got married.

I read your Estate of the Day article everyday and this is by far the best property you have featured to date. Absolutely amazing!

Wonderful location, wonderful acreage, and wonderful barns. Inside? Your pithy comment is right ... pattern on pattern on pattern on pattern ... floral after floral ... eegads, give it a rest. It makes me tired looking at all that visual noise. And the tiki bar? Hideous.

It is NOT hideous! The rooms are beautiful...I was expecting overdone, gaudy rooms like most mansions...this one is perfect...the only thing I don't care for is the are of the double staircases....the settee is wrong and the walls are not right either...otherwise every single room is wonderful.

Very beautiful estate. It seems, as though, in America we really only have one "style". From the rich to the poor, everyone uses the basic same building materials. Drywall, Hardwood flooring, same kinds of blah walls, no real intricate detailing. Oh sure, the murals, crown molding, marble, etc. are all nice but really just elaborate and expensive extras. Where is the intricate and ellborate detailing? i.e. Builtmore Estate.

this would be Heaven on Earth...just Beautiful.

It is insane that anyone should have this much money and live in such extravagant conditions. Hope it felt like heaven on earth, 'cuz no one who lives to such extremes while on earth will BE in heaven!
Janice Feb 16th 2008 6:28PM
Gosh, Lynn, your comment is hilarious. "Hope it felt like heaven on earth, 'cuz no one who lives to such extremes while on earth will BE in heaven." I'm going to remember that for future use.

Lynn, I'm really sorry for you that you thought rich people on earth don't go to heaven. Please be reminded, they are already in heaven. You are in hell with jealousy & ignorance, & I am very sorry for you because you will stay there even after death where you belong, HELL!!! Everybody has his own taste for art. I am sure it is built for the owner and not for the critics. The owner is actually enjoying it heavenly, while critics are dying of jealousy. Too bad, you can't afford it. SOUR GRAPES!!!! ARARZEE

I'm sorry but I have a family of 6. Not enough room for us. Could you focus on something a bit larger.
Oprah Feb 20th 2008 8:57PM
I have BIGGER house.

I agree with the poster who mentioned the Biltmore estate. People no longer have any
taste or style. This is just another McMansion or in other words what you get when
another Hillbilly gets a hold of some money.

These are the kinds of homes that you see in your dreams. They are unreachable...and almost unfathomable, as its beauty is overwhelming.
wandagarnergaddis Feb 21st 2008 11:36PM
On my budget, I'd invite twenty Deaf People to share in the expenses on this place.

This home's location is spectacular.
If you google map Eastville Virginia this Estate is easy to pick out if you switch to satellite view (look towards the Bay), you can see that just beyond the trees next to the Stable is a miles long beach which looks perfect for riding horses. It has ample woods and pastures and miles of white sand to ride on. What more could you ask for?
