The Pink Palace isn't pink any more but the mansion in Atlanta's Buckhead area retains the name from the time when it was pink. The mansion was built in 1926 for the Rhodes Furniture family and is a six-bedroom stucco Italian Baroque-style home on four acres at the corner of West Paces Ferry and Tuxedo roads. The home was designed by Atlanta architects Neel Reid and Philip Schutze and has huge public rooms designed for grand entertaining. The murals are absolutely dazzling. What makes this one even more interesting is the renovation. it has been remodeled so that it runs on geothermal energy (turning a $6500 a month energy bill into an apartment-sized $150). They removed 18 layers of lead paint from the doors, windows and walls and all doors and door frames were removed, made square, and put back in. The attic on top of the sun room and family room was changed turning the ceilings/roofs into floors. The servants quarters were transformed into larger living space. It's an odd mix, you have rooms that are typically old South, grand and ornate, but you also have light-filled modern spaces with clean lines. The graceful renovation made the home modern and sustainable but managed to maintain its original style in the original rooms. At $20 million it's the most expensive listing in Atlanta.

I dont like the "odd mix". I'd prefer it to go one way or the other.

Very nice! Get rid of the too long curtains though! Or should I say window treatments.

I have to say thats the first time I have seen a bath tub sunken. My first though was leave a light on at night or someone might fall in LOL . Their pool is a salt water pool. I don't believe I have heard of someone puting salt in a pool. I guess that what it means lol Nice house wonder if they will get 20 million for it?

salt water pools tend to have lower maintenance costs than clorinated (doesn't make sense to call them freshwater) regular pools, so they are becoming somewhat more common.

This is truly beautiful. I had the opportunity to look at this amazing place a few weeks ago. Not only is the mansion itself beautiful, but the property surrounding the area is amazing. I am trying to convince my father to buy this, but I don't know if he will. He's a bit skeptical.

what fool will pay $20mio for THAT...especially in atlanta. maybe $5 wouldve been more like it.
and the architects completely suck. looks like they couldnt decide what style to go with so they lumped everything together. VERY poorly executed.
and some of these pics are photoshopped....look at the kitchen island.

The drapes...it's called puddling, it's what you do when you spend 20K on window treatments.
