This compound is located in a colony of beach homes on Sand Point Road in the coastal community of Carpinteria, California. The five-bedroom estate includes both a main house and a guest house. The design takes the traditional Cape Cod style and lightens and brightens it with an exterior of bleached cedar shingles and an interior of large windows and white beams. The home is practically perfect (maybe the media room is a bit off but other than that, wow). Because it is Carpinteria though you'll pay through the nose for a home like this. It's listed at $32.5 million and doesn't even seem to have a pool.

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.

%Gallery-26518%
Continue reading Cape Cod Style in Carpinteria, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Diamond Head, Estate of the Day

The last time I checked out a home in Honolulu, Hawaii the top home was listed at $10.8 million. Since back in April, that house has been reduced to $9.25 million and there is a new home in the top spot. Today's home is located in the Diamond Head area and has incredible water views. The two-story residence has three master suites with ocean views and private balconies, maids room and a three-car garage. It also has a particularly alluring feature, an infinity edge pool that faces the ocean. This home is listed at $10.75 million.

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.

%Gallery-27238%
Continue reading Diamond Head, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

John McCain's Former Home, Estate of the Day

Today's home in Phoenix, Arizona was once the home of John and Cindy McCain. The home, on over two acres, was Cindy McCain's childhood home, where she was raised as a privileged beer distributor's daughter. When the McCains lived there they spent $250,000 remodeling the home back in the 1980s. In 2006, the couple downsized into a condo and put the home on the market. When I first heard about it in 2006, they had a bit of trouble selling the house, listing it for around $3.75 million.

The current owner is going for a bit more. They have listed the home, which has seven bedrooms in the main house and two bedrooms in the guest house, for a hefty $12 million. The home includes a master suite with a Mexican-tiled private patio with a spa and built-in fireplace and seating. The gourmet kitchen has slate floors, granite counters and heavy commercial stainless steel appliances. The guest house also has an attached his/her dressing cabana. More pics at the virtual tour. It seems to have had quite the renovation since the McCains lived there. Check out the pics from 2005 when Architectural Digest visited the McCains. It's virtually unrecognizable except for certain telling details like the fireplace in the master bedroom. I have to say, I prefer Cindy McCain's version of this house.

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.

%Gallery-27893%
Continue reading John McCain's Former Home, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Villa Eden, Estate of the Day

I first heard about this estate a year ago after the Wall Street Journal reported that media billionaire Haim Saban was putting his Acapulco, Mexico vacation home on the market. A year later and the home is still on the market for the same price. The three-acre gated compound in the Las Brisas community is the estate that Warner Communications (which became Time Warner) used to entertain clients and celebrities. In the late 1990s, Time Warner needed to cut costs and sold the home known as Villa Eden to Saban for around $7 million in 2001. The home has 12 bedrooms (plus five bedrooms in the servant quarters), 17 bathrooms, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, two pools, five massage rooms and a wine cellar. The expansive home has jetliner views of the Acapulco bay. It is listed at $12 million.

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.
%Gallery-27217%
Continue reading Villa Eden, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Paradise by the Bay, Estate of the Day

Last time I checked out a house in the Tiburon area for a look at the most expensive zip codes, the top house in the area was listed at $38.5 million. Since then that same house has climbed to $44 million and the top of the market has seen a few more lavish homes such as today's estate listed.

The Tiburon peninsula lends itself to beautiful properties that make the best of the views in the San Francisco Bay area. This one, called Paradise by the Bay turns its approximately 6.8 acres into a charming family compound. This luxury estate has been in the same family since 1926. The estate includes a five-bedroom main house, three outbuildings, a championship tennis court, pool, children's playground, and scenic waterfront area in a secluded cover.

The main house has water views from the dining room, kitchen, master suite and living room. The lower level media/family room opens to the lawn area. There is a patio room that has been historically enjoyed as an area to entertain and host noted musicians. Other features include an office which is situated adjacent to the main house, overlooking the gardens and distant Ring Mountain. The lower deck "cottage" is an ideal guest retreat overlooks the water and opens to a deck.

The small pool is surrounded by grass and also has a cabana and bar designed for entertaining and relaxing by the pool. This area is accessible by a private road for the catering staff. The massage sanctuary is a private massage deck that allows one to hear the lapping of the water and enjoy complete serenity while getting a massage. You can also enjoy veggies from your own organic gardens or send the kids off to play in the children's play area with sand box. In fact the property is so rambling that the pathways are marked with cute signs pointing the way to different areas. This property is listed at $22.6 million.

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.
%Gallery-27214%
Continue reading Paradise by the Bay, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Templeton, Estate of the Day

Back in May word came out from various sources that socialite Cornelia Guest had put her family's estate in Old Westbury, New York on the market. The listing was available then but now we've got some interior pics of the 11 bedroom home. The two-story brick colonial manor home built in 1924 has 28 rooms in total and the grounds are home to a pool, tennis courts, barn, formal gardens, and a greenhouse.

But let's talk about the interior. Namely, the animal prints. I haven't seen quite so many animal prints used in one home since we checked out Suzanne Somers's place in Palm Springs. The interior of this home is an eclectic mix of vintage antique furnishings and art combined with newer pieces from around the world. Tying it together is a whole zoo of animal prints used in the upholstery and rugs. Templeton is listed at $20 million.

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.

%Gallery-27113%
Continue reading Templeton, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

311 In Los Feliz, Estate of the Day

It's a bit eclectic and not really an estate but I just love the livability of today's home which was written up in the LA Times Hot Property section. Owned by Doug "SA" Martinez of the band 311 this home in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Los Feliz was built in 1927. The Spanish Colonial home is full of archways and stucco and original wood details. The four-bedroom home has two tiled balconies, one that is off of the master suite. No decorator here, this home is a riot of different colors and styles, a comfortable hodge-podge of unmatched furniture, colorful art and books everywhere stuffed into armoire-like cases. The kitchen is the only room that looks bland. The brilliant blue-tiled bathroom is a bit much but I love it for its vibrancy. The outdoor space is nice too with a saltwater pool and a custom Tennessee oak-covered patio with views of the Griffith Observatory. It is listed at $2.195 million.

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.

%Gallery-27328%
Continue reading 311 In Los Feliz, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Sunday Real Estate Round-Up, 07/12/08

From the Wall Street Journal's Private Properties:
--Florida car dealer, Terry Taylor has listed his Palm Beach home, shown above, at $72.5 million which is almost three times what he paid in 2003. The five-bedroom oceanfront residence was built in 1921 and designed by architect Marion Sims Wyeth for entrepreneur Earle Perry Charlton, one of the founders of the F.W. Woolworth Company. Its name Qui-Si-Sana ("Here One Heals") comes from a hotel on the island of Capri, and the home has a Mediterranean appeal, making ample use of the outdoor space with large oceanside lawns and an open courtyard plan surrounding a private garden terrace by the formal pool. The interior includes four stately fireplaces, pecky cypress paneling, Cuban tile floors, and filigreed ironwork gates. Large hedges help preserve privacy on this corner oceanfront lot in one of Palm Beach's finest neighborhoods. While most of Florida has been faltering real estate-wise, Palm Beach has continued to rise, scoring $81.5 million for Sidney Kimmel's mansion and $100 million for Donald Trump's oceanfront flip. This home is listed at $20 million.

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.

%Gallery-27097%
Continue reading Qui-Si-Sana, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rosarito Beach Hotel Opens New Tower

I've seen a ton of condo-hotel projects in Cabo and even a few in Ensenada, now the next stop on the Baja Peninsula to get a facelift is the Rosarito Beach Hotel. The hotel has a long history. It started out as a 12-room hunting lodge in 1925 and played host to many celebrities including Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Orson Wells, Rita Hayworth and John Wayne. Now the hotel will become a 500 room and suite resort with an official grand opening on August 2. They are offering a Sunday through Thursday special room rate of just $79.

New to the compound is the oceanfront 17-story, 271-suite Pacifico Tower. The new tower offers an infinity pool and a rooftop restaurant. The Pacifico Tower has fully furnished suites that are offered for sale and can be placed in the hotel rental program. One bedroom condos start at $190,000, two-bedroom condos start at $362,000 and two-story, three-bedroom penthouses start at $599,000.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

$65 Million In Malibu, Estate of the Day

I've seen plenty of big listings in Malibu but this one has everyone talking, William J. Chadwick, a managing director of the real estate investment banking and capital management firm Chadwick Saylor & Co., has put his Malibu home on the market for $65 million, a price that could be a record for the area. The 10,500-square-foot home also comes with 150 feet of beach front in the ultra-desirable Carbon Beach area, a 75-foot pool and spa, a wine cellar and six bedrooms. Other home features include a wall-sized aquarium, a master suite with hers and his bathrooms, a pub, a gym, a swoonworthy Art Deco home theater and a garage geared for the collector. For a home of this worth it's surprisingly tasteful. No Trump style excesses here, just a colorful and perfectly appointed beach house. Certainly for this type of money you could get more square footage elsewhere but it's a lovely home for those who want Carbon Beach cachet.

[via LA Times Hot Property]

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.

%Gallery-27313%
Continue reading $65 Million In Malibu, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Roman's Latest Real Estate Rumor

The rumors involving Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich come and go so fast, sometimes it's hard to keep up. The big one this week was that Abramovich, one of the world's biggest spenders, had picked up a home in France for $500 million. The home in question La Leopolda, is an elaborate villa on 10 acres located on the French Riviera.

Various sources said that Abramovich and his girlfriend Daria Zhukova had a private viewing of the estate and fell in love with it and decided to buy it, even though he already owns a chateau nearby. The story quickly made the rounds of major websites and newspapers and yesterday and then, just as quickly, disappeared. The Independent reported that Abramovich's spokesperson shot down the claims saying that Abramovich doesn't need another house in France. Still, with Abarmovich, you just never know, he could still be moving in and just be playing a guessing game with the press.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Ivy Lane, Estate of the Day

It has some serious issues with carpet color but I like this San Antonio, Texas home because it looks like a real family home. The five-bedroom home was built 17 years ago by Texas architect Mac Chesney. It's got expansive covered outdoor living space that includes a full outdoor kitchen, wet bar, grill and fireplace. The family room and kitchen feature a vaulted peaked ceiling and plenty of space. The formal living room and dining room are a wee bit dated but I like the oak-paneled library, once you get rid of the carpeting.

I think this home could use a little modernizing. The fenced swimming pool doesn't have a pool house but the grounds are pre-wired so that a guest house or cabana can be added. Above the three-car garage there is a full kitchen and bath and it could be finished into a luxury guest suite. With the way the press hounds celebs, no wonder they want to get away from it all. According to the post, private islands really cost (um, we knew that), with the owner buying the land, supplying their own water and electricity, creating a waste disposal system and building a dock or an airstrip. Also, don't forget security -- if you're off filming or do-gooding or having twins in France, you can't leave the island unattended.

Here's the list of celebs the post cited as island-owners: John Lennon, Marlon Brando, Mel Gibson, Johnny Depp, Nicolas Cage, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Gene Hackman, Robin Williams, Tony Curtis, Richard Branson, David Copperfield, Leonardo DiCaprio and Athena Onassis. See the gallery for a few of these retreat spots.

%Gallery-27134%

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Wikiosco, Estate of the Day

I decided to take another look at another huge home that I covered a couple of years ago. Two years ago I first saw Wikiosco (the name means House of Beautiful Waters), a 1895 historic Tudor revival. The home sits on Lake George in New York facing a wide expanse of lake shoreline. The 11,000 square-foot t stone exterior stucco framed home has a beautiful classic interior with a library, leaded glass windows, an elevator, a fitness center and the original fireplace mantels and woodwork. The home has been restored by the current owners but mostly looks as if it is ready to film a Victorian melodrama without much stage dressing. The property includes a two-bedroom guest cottage, an in-ground pool, tennis court and a parking garage with room for over 20 cars. The price hasn't changed in two years, it's still at $17.9 million.

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.

%Gallery-24758%
Continue reading Wikiosco, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Private Island in Montana, Estate of the Day

There aren't too many chances to own your own island in Montana. This estate is on a private island in Whitefish Lake and sits on 10 acres with over 2600 waterfront feet. The home is a custom 7,554 square foot house with three bedrooms, an attached guest apartment, attached oversized two-car garage plus a separate three-car oversized garage with space upstairs for a work room. The interior has a beautiful log cabin style and seems to be the ideal place to retreat from the world. It appears to be the home of State Senator Dan Weinberg who announced in December he wasn't seeking reelection. This home is listed at $17 million.

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.

%Gallery-24886%
Continue reading Private Island in Montana, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

The Quarterback in Laguna, Estate of the Day

I spent some time last week in the oceanside town of Laguna Beach, California so I was particularly interested to see this property for sale. Laguna Beach is a town full of hills and canyons which lends itself to homes with truly amazing vistas of the sea. The LA Times Hot Property column reports that today's estate belongs to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer. Palmer's home is a four-bedroom Mediterranean perched on a hilltop with beautiful views out over the ocean, the town and an open canyon. Like many hillside homes, this one has a bunch of levels. The top level has an entry deck, oceanview front office and a two-car garage. The home also includes a gourmet kitchen, formal dining room, living room, a full-floor master bedroom suite which has a cedar-lined walk-in closet, an office, sitting area and master bath. The lowest level has two two bedrooms with a large balcony. Big Time Listings reports that Palmer also owns a home in Del Mar, California and a five-bedroom home in Cincinnati. This home is listed at $2.949 million.

For more prime properties and lush locations, see Luxury Homes and Mansions.

%Gallery-26735%
Continue reading The Quarterback in Laguna, Estate of the Day

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Sunday Real Estate Round-Up, 7/06/08

From the LA Times Hot Property:
--Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood have picked up a home on the Malibu beachfront that had been listed at $5.45 million.
